Are we truly sustainable? Part II

Are we truly sustainable? Part II

The apparel industry produces way too much stuff which we don’t even need. If that's not bad enough, the industry still tends to use toxic and harmful materials. As Open Wear, we don’t want to contribute to that. Of course, the best way to reduce would be if we would not produce anything at all. But, since we are passionate powder riders ourselves, we can't escape from the proper gear to ride in on powder days.

Are we truly sustainable?

Are we truly sustainable?

When I’ll be old, I want to look back at my life, being able to honestly say that I have tried everything to do good. Where other industries have seen groundbreaking developments on mechanisation and robotization of production, the apparel industry still needs human hands to put garments together.

Pants, pants, pants...

Pants, pants, pants...

The number one question we received over the last year was: “When will you bring pants?” Good news! That day has come. Next Tuesday, we’ll be launching pants matching to your jacket.Best of all: they fit both the new jackets as well as the once from last year. And ladies, we’ve got your back as well. We also designed a pair of women's pants.

Lebanon - A country of many faces

Lebanon - A country of many faces

An amazing once in a lifetime opportunity or a stupid idea? We ignored the latter and instead we were going on "an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity". So we traveled to Lebanon to go splitboarding, to get to know and explore the culture and of course to experience something new to us

The Explanation of The Open One

The Explanation of The Open One

t's been almost 2 months now since we've been delivering The Open One. So, we thought it was time for a little video that explains every feature on the jacket. Well, at least that's what we planned. Unfortunately, co-founder Martijn felt the pressure of shooting a quick video before sunset and forgot to mention two key features of the jacket. To make sure all features are in, we've added them textually to the video.

The Open One is coming + final factory visit

The snow has been absent in most part of the Alps the last few weeks, but times are changing, it appears. So time to bring out The Open One! We just got back from the last and final factory visit. All jackets are now being packed and getting ready for shipment to the distribution warehouse on the 22nd.

So what does this mean for your jacket?

  • For Switzerland:
Your jacket will be sent out of Germany on about the 29-30th, depending on Swiss customs it should arrive within 2-4 business days after.
  • For EU:
Depending on when EU customs release the goods, your jacket will leave on about the 29-30th and should arrive 1-3 business days after.
  • For the rest of the world:
Your jacket will be sent out of Germany on about the 29-30th, depending on your local customs it should arrive within 5-12 business days.

Please note that the above mentioned are estimates and we are really reliant on customs to make it work. We hope you now have a better insight in when your jacket should approximately arrive. All shipments can be followed via track and trace. In the coming days, you will receive your personal track and trace to follow the shipment your jacket.

Final inspection

We did the final inspection for the jacket and everything looks great. We are super happy with the end result and can’t wait to see the pictures and videos of you guys riding the deepest powder in The Open One. Below you’ll find a few more photos that we shot during our last factory visit.

Last chance for Indiegogo

As we are getting close to delivery we will stop the Indiegogo InDemand campaign as of tomorrow Tuesday 20 December. This automatically means that if you still want to get your hands on The Open One for a discounted price, you have to be quick. From Wednesday on, you can order The Open One via our own website.

That’s it for today.

The Open One got nominated for the ISPO BRANDNEW Award!

Finalist.jpg

We are super stoked to announce that The Open One just got nominated for an ISPO BRANDNEW Award, one of the most prestigious awards for new and upcoming brands in the industry.

To us, it means a first recognition for the work we've put together in the last few months. Recognition towards the quality we promise to deliver. Recognition for the confidence all our backers had into the project and the belief we can deliver the right product to them.

We can't wait to get all your feedback on The Open One in a few weeks. At the ISPO fair beginning of February, the final winners will be announced. We'll for sure keep you updated on this as well.

So far our mini update. Next one will be again on the production status!

Update time: Production update + expected delivery + more

Summer is over… Good! Winter has come and we understand that many of you are anxiously waiting for your Open Wear: The Open One jacket to arrive. The last few days, Chris has been in the factory in Hanoi, Vietnam, making all the final preparations, checking all the materials and testing the first production samples. So, time for a little update.

Expected delivery

Let’s start with the most urgent question:
When will my jacket arrive?

Depending on your country, this will be in the last days of December (for Europe) or in the first days of January (for the rest of the World). We are happy that we will deliver to most of you, as promised in December.

Unfortunately not before the holidays, but we needed an extra few days to guarantee the products to be of the best quality. We, for example, found that printing the custom jacket ID’s was a bit more challenging and time-consuming than expected.

This pushed back the initial shipping date a few days. But in general, we are super stoked with the state of our production so far and especially the final outcome of the Open One.

Is there still a chance of a delay?

Yes, of course, there can always be a delay, we are on a tight schedule and at the end of the year there is a peak in shipments worldwide. Which could, for example, put the products on a later flight or slow down the customs process.

The products are planned to ship out of our warehouse in Germany in the last week of December, with 1-2 shipping days for Europe & Switzerland and approx. 5 days for the rest of the world. As informed during the campaign, for Europe and Switzerland the customs duties and costs will be completely handled by us.

Production update

Chris has been checking the production in Vietnam the last few days and we are glad that everything runs very smoothly and the products are looking great! Check the photos, below this update, to get an impression of the work that’s currently going on. Chris will be back in a bit more than two weeks to do a final check on all the products before shipment.

In the meanwhile, Sympatex has tested the final production jacket in their labs on waterproofness and we are glad to say that we have passed all tests. Making sure, that all The Open Ones are perfectly equipped for the worst weather conditions. So no worries, you can get out there into the deepest powder. The jacket will keep you dry.

In a few days, we can bring some more exciting news about The Open One. So stay tuned.

What’s next?

We get lots of questions on when we will bring the next products. This is very motivating to read and feel your support to build out this project into a real company with a broader collection. We will get back to all of you on this in January. It's already running in the background, but our first and foremost focus is the successful delivery of The Open One.

The Indiegogo InDemand sales are also still running very good. We are ahead of any projection we dared to make in terms of sales. By of yesterday night, all green jackets have now been sold out and we are reaching very low stock numbers on several sizes of the black and blue jackets. This is of course great news, but we are also a bit sad that we can’t fulfil all the demand.

That’s it for today.
We’ll continue to give frequent updates from now until the delivery.
On Monday we’ll be back with the next one.

For those that have plans to go and ride powder in the next few days: have fun, but please be careful. Conditions can be very tricky.

Production Update

It's been a little while, but here we are again. We just wanted to update you on the progress of our production and ask you to double check your address, because we are going to close the opportunity to change it in a few days.

Production update

All the raw materials have been produced in time, which means that the last shipments are arriving within the next days at the factory and then the assembly will start. The most important outtake for you all is, that this means, that we are still on schedule to deliver all the jackets in December.

It also means that Chris will be in the factory again within the next 2-3 weeks and we'll do another update then.

Meet the people that made Open Wear possible

Meet the people that made Open Wear possible

An idea can only turn into a sustainable company if there are enough people supporting the goals and vision. Last summer, we launched on Kickstarter to see if we could get enough support for Open Wear. Within 12 hours our Founding Members helped us reach our goal and at the end of the campaign we can look back at a huge list of people that all gave us their trust and believed in us to make our dream come true.

Factory visit Hanoi, Vietnam - The Open One

Two weeks ago we went to Pro Sports in Hanoi, Vietnam. The factory that will produce The Open One. We made all the final preparations and discussed the production planning. First a little more about the factory. Pro Sports is a state-of-the-art facility that is fully socially compliant and have a very pleasant and safe working environment for all the people involved. You can even check out their Facebook page to get an insight in the day to day activities.

Backer's Talk - Paul Norheim

Backer's Talk - Paul Norheim

It's been already more than a months since we ended our Kickstarter campaign, but we are still getting great feedback from our community every day. Therefore we thought it was time to do another Backer's Talk. This time we spoke to Paul Norheim, a 21-year-old Norwegian, who has helped us a lot already so far by sorting out how we can best enter the Norwegian market.

We got invited for Indiegogo InDemand, two free new features and more…

It’s been about three weeks since we have ended our Kickstarter campaign. Time for a little update. First of all we are super stoked to announce that we have been invited by Indiegogo for their InDemand-program. Which is a pre-order service for successful crowdfunding campaigns. Indiegogo is like Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform and since a bit more than a year they have their InDemand-program running.

The campaign is almost over! One last update before the deadline.

The campaign is almost over! One last update before the deadline.

Only 29 more hours before we reach our Kickstarter campaign deadline. To sum it up: it's been really great to receive so much support from all of you. Thanks again for realising our dream. A few important things, more per topic below: Colour stretch goal (most likely) not achieved. Thursday morning you will receive a mail requesting your size and colour. The ventilation at the back will be skipped.

Backer's Talk - Ingo, Sani, Gernot, Christian, Matt & Chris

We believe it's key to listen to your community. The backers from our Kickstarter project are our community from day 1 and form time to time we'd like to share a little background story with all of you. Today we've spoken with a group of almost 40-year olds from Austria. Ingo, Sani, Gernot, Christian, Matt and Chris decided for the 5-pack deal. So they'll all wear the same jacket on their next trip to Jackson Hole (Wyoming) next year.
