BERN / AMSTERDAM, June 28th 2016 - Only 12 hours after launching on Kickstarter Open Wear has reached their €15.000 Kickstarter funding goal, with their men's powder ski & snowboard jacket: The Open One. The Swiss/Dutch start-up wants to change the outerwear industry by offering high performance and eco-friendly products for an affordable price.
The concept behind Open Wear is actually very simple. Take the same materials top brands use. Make the product at least as good. Sell it for less, directly to consumers over the internet. By cutting away the middle men they save on unnecessary costs in the delivery cycle, without making any sacrifice to the product’s high quality.
Pay less, get more
For this Kickstarter campaign, they even dropped their prices further. Meaning you can now buy a jacket, designed for riding powder, for only €249,- instead of €389,- after the campaign. Whereas comparable products in the market even retail at €600,- to €800,-.
"An industry so reliant on nature, should take full care of nature." says co-founder Jella Kramer. In a market that's dominated by Gore-Tex, Open Wear took the decision to focus on a combination of high performance and eco-friendliness. They partnered with German technology company Sympatex, that offer a membrane with an outstanding performance, while being 100% made out of recycled bottles.
As a company that feels a responsibility to contribute to a better world, Open Wear guarantees fair salaries and a safe working environment for the people working on the assembly of the jackets.
Where you would expect Open Wear to make sacrifices in terms of features, they do the exact opposite. The Open One contains several innovative new features, while staying true to the core sports functionality of the jacket. It's equipped with lots of huge pockets and you can now easily take out your smartphone or check your GPS or smartwatch, without taking off your gloves. The jacket has an additional powder proof ventilation and it even has a pocket to put in your location tracker, so you'll never lose your jacket.
Having reached their first funding way faster than expected, Open Wear is looking into the future. "We are keen on changing the outerwear industry, by being a truly open company and bringing a range of high quality, eco-friendly and affordable outerwear products. However, our first goal is to perfectly deliver the Open One to all our current and future backers before the winter season starts. We'll be adding new colours and other surprises to our Kickstarter campaign in the next few days." says co-founder Martijn Jegerings.
July 27th 2016 is the campaign deadline. So there is still plenty of time to scoop your next winter's powder ski or snowboard jacket. However, the Super Early Bird (€249) and Early Bird (€279) are only limited on 125 pieces. So you’d better be quick to get the best deal.
