Two weeks ago we went to Pro Sports in Hanoi, Vietnam. The factory that will produce The Open One. We made all the final preparations and discussed the production planning.
First a little more about the factory. Pro Sports is a state-of-the-art facility that is fully socially compliant and have a very pleasant and safe working environment for all the people involved. You can even check out their Facebook page to get an insight in the day to day activities that are going on at the factory. The working standards offered are a very important reason why we decided to produce here. Besides working with environmental friendly materials, we want to make sure that we feel good about the products.
Pro Sports prepared a great new sample, that looks great and has a super nice fit. We have tweaked and optimised the shape of the hood, to really fit a helmet nicely. We’ve tested the new belt-loop connector at the powder skirt and the detachable lycra cuffs. Both are working great and are a true addition to the jacket. And finally we have added some minor improvements to the phone pocket, making sure you won’t feel your phone while riding deep powder.
Since we know the final production amount, we could finally fine-tune all trims and have made them exactly how we want them. Nice, clean and simple, with focus on the best functionality. For this, we’ve partnered up with Rudholm, a company that follows the same ideas on producing as us. Focus on best quality, as environmentally friendly as possible and with good and safe working conditions for the people who actually make the products.
The last challenge we had to overcome was our stretch goal, the individual ID numbers that we’re going to add to each jacket. We are happy to say that we have found a nice way to do this. We are using laser-cutted overlay tape, which we’ll be heat-pressing on to the garment. This way you wont feel an annoying label scratching on your body. We will do thorough wash and abrasion tests, to make sure that the print stays on well.
Two proto samples have been sent to Europe. One went directly to Sympatex that will examine every little detail on the jacket during the rain chamber test. Because if it withstands the rain test, it will for sure keep you super dry in deep pow. The other sample was received by Martijn, who has been testing the final XL fitting of the jacket.
We are now waiting for the delivery of the Sympatex fabric. The schedule at the moment looks as follows: All materials should be in by the end of October, early November, the production will roll from middle of November and delivery of the final jackets is planned for middle of December. We do our utmost best to make sure you’ll receive the jackets before the holiday season.
What’s also good to know is that we are producing some extra jackets, so we will have some on stock in case you are not 100% happy about your size or colour. Plus, of course we also need a few extra to be able to keep the pre-order options alive via Indiegogo InDemand. So, if you guys know anyone that missed out on our Kickstarter, feel free to refer them to our Indiegogo campaign.
More production updates will follow soon!
Even tough we are enjoying a real Indian summer here in Europe, the first powder flocks are starting to appear on the snow maps. One thing is for sure. We can’t wait to ship the jackets out and get images of you guys enjoying deep powder in The Open One. Because that’s why we started this campaign in the first place!
Last but not least, a quick reminder to the few people that still haven’t responded to the survey. Right now our planned stock is still more than good enough to make sure you can get the colour and size you want, but this won’t last forever. So better be quick and fill-out the survey to prevent missing out.
